The Why

Our Mission

Being a successful NYC foster parent requires a certain special selfless person who is persistent, patient, loving, and confident in their abilities to give a child removed from their parent(s) a temporary loving home that is better than the circumstances they were removed from.

Even if the foster parent has the best intentions, there are still so many external factors that could break that confidence, including 2-3 hour required visitations with birth parents at agency headquarters often 2-3 times per week, child behavior issues, and unexpected child care needs.  Not only does the child need an unwavering bedrock of love and support, but the foster parent needs this as well.

Helena's House aims to serve as a resource to provide financial and emotional support to NYC foster parents to ensure that they have the tools and support they need to do their jobs and serve as successful foster parents.
